Authentic Presenting

Most presentation courses focus on skills – they treat presentations as something to be learnt. This may seem fair enough, but we actually think this can make people worse at presenting, not better. This is usually because they start focusing on all these new things to remember and end up trying to be something they’re not.

And techniques aimed at 'conquering' nerves rarely work either - after all have you ever felt better after someone told you to 'just relax and be yourself'?.

Instead of learning new skills, we believe the primary objective of any presentation course should be to strip away the barriers which get in the way of our natural ability to present. By presenting 'authentically' we will get you to focus on simply connecting with your audience. From this, we believe everything else will follow.

Using emprically-driven insights from psychology and the latest techniques from cognitive behavioural therapy, you will practice:

• Connecting with your audience
• Increasing your ‘presence’
• Willingness to experience nerves
• Identifying content you’re passionate about
• Using empathy to handle difficult crowds
• Grabbing attention and making your ideas ‘sticky’
• Appealing to the left and right sides of the brain

During the course we also look at areas such as when to use notes, the use of Powerpoint and the design of slides, body language and handling difficult questions.

In addition, we examine the psychology of being presented to, to increase awareness of what makes presentations effective and memorable. For example:

• How much information do people really take in?
• How do different audiences respond to different styles of presenting?
• What does the psychology of an audience teach us about how to structure a presentation?

This is a fun, interactive and intense course. By the end of it we find our clients are much more confident about presenting, and usually see presentations in a completely different light.

"This course really has changed the way I present, and more importantly how I feel about presenting, forever."

"By challenging me Rob - something no-one has ever done - you have rocked my world, or at least enabled me to rock my own world!”
